Many Austinites will speculate that there are more dogs than children roaming our streets, and they might very well be right. Austin is considered to be one of the most pet-friendly cities in America, and Groovy Movers makes no exception when it comes to offering our No Worries Moving Service to our four-legged neighbors.
Believe it or not, pets get just as stressed about moving as we do. Here are some tips to help you prepare your pup for your move, moving day, and your new home. Just like preparing yourself for a move helps you organize and adapt, the same is true for our pets.
Begin readying yourself and your pet for moving day, well in advance. You can reference our previous blogs for tips on how to do this, but you’ll want to start making small, subtle changes well in advance to help your dog slowly adapt to a changing environment. Do this by preparing your dogs things for a move, the same way you would prepare your own. Pack non-essentials after you know you will not need them again until you move into your new home.
On moving day, you’ll want to let your pet blow off some steam, even before your move begins. It’s best to get a head start on the day you move, and one of the best ways to do this is to take your dog. Let them spend some energy before the move begins. If you can, take them directly to your new residence.
Ideally, you’ll want to keep your dogs and other pets distracted, away, or kenneled during a move. For the safety of our Groovy Movers crews, and your pets, it is recommended that you find a place for your pets to spend the day while your movers work.
After moving into your new home, you’ll want to let your pet get acquainted. However, you’ll want to make sure your new residence is safe for a wandering dog. Make sure all items are unpacked and put away before allowing your pet to roam free.
